EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) is one of the best researched, most effective treatments for a wide range of issues including:

  • Post traumatic stress disorder

  • Panic attacks

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Phobias

  • Abuse

  • Chronic Stress

  • Childhood attachment wounds

Understanding EMDR

EMDR works very well for individuals who have tried therapy before but continue to feel stuck and unable to move forward. A moment becomes “frozen in time,” and remembering a trauma may feel as bad as going through it the first time because the images, sounds, smells, and feelings haven’t changed. Such memories have a lasting negative effect that interferes with the way we see the world and the way we relate to others.

EMDR is not hypnosis and will not erase your memories. It is used to lessen the body’s overreaction to an issue that is not present-day threatening. During an EMDR session, you may experience intense emotions or sensations but by the end of the session most people report a great reduction in the level of disturbance. My clients report that they gain new perspectives, insights and are able to have more grace and compassion for themselves.

After 2 sessions of EMDR a client told me, “EMDR helped me connect the dots about things I have talked about for years in traditional talk therapy.”
