COUNSELING

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety

Have you been worrying more than usual or maybe experiencing a sense of uneasiness or dread? What about that deep feeling that something is off, that something just isn’t right or feeling like you are living in straight chaos.

Did you know that anxiety is the most prevalent mental health concern in the US affecting 1 in 5 individuals?

Anxiety can be that uneasy feeling you have before public speaking or getting on an airplane but it also manifests in the following ways:

  • Perfectionism

  • Indecisiveness

  • Physical symptoms- brain fog, stomach aches, fatigue

  • Excessive Worry

  • Feelings of Overwhelm

  • Hard time saying no

  • People pleasing

  • Social withdrawal or avoidance

Your worth doesn’t come from what you do, it isn’t an extrinsic value, you are inherently worthy as you are.

Perfectionism and people pleasing often hide our anxieties and when we don’t meet those high expectations of ourselves, the anxiety peaks.

Anxiety is our body’s natural response to perceived threat or danger— the key word is perceived.

Anxiety is that voice in the back of your head telling you all the ways that something might not work out or why you shouldn’t do something. It’s the incessant “what if” worry and it holds us back from living our most fulfilling lives.

Sometimes anxiety comes from a past event where we were blindsided which leaves us trying to predict the potential outcomes of experiences. At times this feels helpful but often leaves us feeling exhausted, on edge or fearful.

Together we will work together to identify the limiting beliefs you have about yourself and explore the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. We will disrupt the maladaptive trio to introduce healthier thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

I want to help you reduce feelings of guilt and insecurity, that's no way to live. Do you ever notice that others tend to see you in a better light? We will explore the way you see yourself and how that may not line up with reality. Through the use of cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy, we will use thought stopping & replacement strategies and help you to see yourself free from a place of judgment.

Depression

I’ve heard a lot of questions about what could make someone depressed. It doesn’t typically boil down to just one thing- it could be biological, situational, psychological or existential. The thing about depression is that you could have everything that is “supposed” to make you happy yet still feel unfilled and depressed.

I help people who feel stuck. Together we work together to identify goals for the big picture and then break it down into everyday steps. There’s a lot of deep work here and I can’t promise that change will come over night but I know that with support, you can get unstuck. Cognitive behavioral therapy is an empirically validated treatment that we will use to identify specific, attainable and measurable goals. We will work together to get you feeling better as quickly as possible.
